Opening Reception: Saturday, November 16th, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
Jardí’s work takes on a vintage perspective, drawing influence from 1950’s and 60’s filmmaking, to communicate his view of the world. His imaginative scenes depict places and moments from different time periods, merging them into surreal fantasies that feel both nostalgic and mysterious to the viewer. Pop culture references are woven together with Jardí’s imagined characters, adding to the sense that each scene is composed like a still from a movie. Jardí’s work is part of permanent collections at the International Olympic Committee Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland; and in Spain, the Roda Museum, Ciudad Real Museum, Albacete Museum, Lérida Museum, the Valdepeñas Museum, Melilla Museum, and the Focus Abengoa Sevilla Museum. Jardí’s work is included in the private collections of the former King and Queen of Spain, Juan Carlos I and Sofía, as well as Margaret Thatcher, Fidel Castro, and the former President of the International Olympic Committee, Juan Antonio Samaranch. Jardí lives and works in Barcelona, Spain.

In Form and Flux, Emmett Culligan redefines the possibilities of steel, a material synonymous with permanence and rigidity, by transforming it into something pliable, fluid, and alive. Through an innovative process, Culligan inflates hollow steel forms in a kiln at approximately 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, creating sculptures that appear to expand, contract, and interact in a state of constant transformation. The result is a series of works that challenge perceptions of materiality and explore the tension between solidity and flux.

Following his recent exhibition at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, legendary Venice sculptor Woods Davy will exhibit recent stone works challenging the forces of gravity and expectations of material identity. Discovering common ground with the observations of his ancestor, pioneering British chemist and inventor Sir Humphry Davy, on scientific inquiry as an aesthetic process in the early 19th century, Woods explores relationships between imagination and reality, emotion and structure.
“These sculptures offer entrance to an unfamiliar zone beyond gravity and the expectations of the natural world. As I contemplate these works, I feel a euphoric sense of tranquility, a feeling more important to me than the physical object. Emotion, as aesthetic experience, begins to transcend form.” – Woods Davy

A note from the owner of The Crow:
BYOB was birthed, pun intended, from my own PTSD from having a colicky baby. I had a really tough time getting through those first 18 months of parenthood and finding a new community of parents that were willing to acknowledge how tough this time was. Now, a survivor of parenting teenagers (who still seem to suffer from colic) I own a comedy club that has programming that specifically uses comedy as a way to cure the baby blues.

Leslie Sacks Gallery is pleased to present David Hockney | Big Tech an exhibition of a selection of David Hockney’s homemade prints executed on office color copy machine as well as a group of his iPad and iPhone drawings.
David Hockney has always been interested in “ways of seeing”. He has explored this concept throughout the decades by experimenting with the current technology of the time. In the early 1980’s he began making work comprised of photographs taken with Polaroid cameras. Shortly after he would be making art via fax machines and office photocopiers. In 2008-09 he started making drawings on his iPhone and iPad which he continues to make today. While his subject matter has a traditional resonance—still lifes, landscapes, portraiture—it is through his discovery and use of technology that he forges new ways of seeing the most familiar and fundamental subjects of life.
